Philosophy of our school logo and patch
First, at the center: the dragon and the cross. The cross is a symbol of our Christian faith. The color is red to symbolize the sacrifice made by our Lord Jesus. The dragon is a symbol of protection, justice, and righteousness and is widely used by the martial arts community as a protector. Together, they represent our desire to stand firm in our faith and face danger, to be fair, and to defend the lives of others as well as our own.
Second, the kanji: or oriental writing surrounding the logo. The symbols on the left are for Tang Soo Do while the symbols on the right are for Aikijitsu - the primary arts that we practice. The writing on the bottom, Jidutu wushi, is for Christian Warrior - that which we are striving to become.
Third, a golden circle: a universal symbol of unity. It represents the unity of martial artists everywhere no matter which style.
Fourth, a band of mid-night blue: it represents continued growth and learning, first as Christians and second as martial artists. It represents the high level of expertise in which we strive to obtain. It signifies that our training is ongoing and that we are joined together as Christians and martial artists.
Fifth, a second golden circle: a Christian symbol for eternity.
All combined, they mean Salvation Martial Arts, a brotherhood of Christian Martial Artists.
The martial arts can be used for spiritual training
Self-defense preparation is biblical.
Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight. Psalm 144:1
Then Jesus said unto them, but now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip, and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. Luke 22:36
Christians are warriors because our Lord is a warrior.
The Lord is a warrior! The Lord is his name. Exodus 15:3
Our Strength is to be tempered and controlled with love.
If I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, and the power to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
Corinthians 13:2
Rationale and goals for a martial arts ministry
It is Kyuusai Budo Kai’s goal to build up a group of Christian Warriors.
A Christian Warrior is one who uses all that he has and all that he is, including the martial arts, as a tool to live out their life in the Lord Jesus Christ, and to act as disciples to help other people come to know Jesus.
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. Matthew 22:37-39
The martial arts are used as a form of Christian education for physical, mental, and spiritual development, as well as fellowship among believers. Prayer and devotion is utilized as a means of planting seeds in the hearts of all students and combined with rank required memory verses and bible studies to help students grow in their Christian walk.
The program is designed to nurture the following Christian qualities:
•Salvation through Jesus Christ
•Personal relationship with God
•Loving Jesus with heart, soul, mind, and strength
•Christian character development through the Fruit of the Spirit
•Spiritual warfare with the full Armor of God
•Evangelism and the Great Commission
Martial arts classes are offered on an ongoing weekly basis, tuition based, and open to the public. Half of the income goes directly to support the ministry of Parkway Christian Academy.
Courses in safety, self-defense, and first aid will be regularly offered to the church body and the community. These courses are offered free or at minimal cost.
A ministry and competition sparring team will be gathered from members of the program and be responsible for building the name of the program through sports competition and developing evangelical skits, demos, and presentations.
